Fire Garden 2017 Year in Review

2017 is almost over, it’s been a great year after a release of Far and Near last year, I was able to achieve most of the things that were on my wishlist and great to see the progress of the band. We played 6 shows in 2017 and 2 of them were out of Chicago. Released few music videos and filmed a couple… (which are going to be out in 2018).  I started producing other people work. It’s a long journey but I am happy how things are progressing.
Here are some highlights of 2017 from Fire Garden’s world

Far and Near success

We released Far and Near in October of 2016 and the response was amazing which continued in 2017. We started distributing the album worldwide thanks to BurningShed, LaserCD, JustForKicks, MerchDesk and many more. In February I got an email from our distributor in Germany that they have sold out the first batch and ordered another batch of CDs which was great to see. PROG magazine published a review of Far and Near which is another highlight of 2017.
It’s great to see fans representing Fire Garden at other band’s show, Many of them sent me photos of wearing FG T-shirts at Haken meet and greet which was another highlight for me in 2017.

Music Videos

I always love music videos but the cost and other things always kept me from it (like everyone). Finally, I got an opportunity to do one in-fact, we sneaked 2 videos in one day shoot. A New Day was the first music video people saw, as radio-friendly track it got attention of some non-prog fans. Later with the help of Crystal Spotlight we released Life of a Drifter video special thanks and courtesy of Jordan Rudess who was kind enough to send me the video of his solo..the fun fact is that the video is actually him recording the solo it’s all live and one take voila!!!. We filmed 2 more videos in 2017 Faint Shadows and There’s Something which are going to be released in early 2018.

Live Shows

I love playing live music this is something I wanted to do from day one. For me, you can’t replace the energy and interaction happen on stage. Unfortunately, nobody cares about going to the shows but I have been lucky that Fire Garden fan following is growing and we got an opportunity to visit 2 cities in 2017. Thanks to my buddy Davey K from Turning Virtue for inviting us to Buffalo, NY and Chris Herin from Tiles for arranging a show in Bowling Green, OH. We played 3 show tour from Chicago to Bowling Green to Buffalo a weekend trip to remember. We played a total of 6 shows a little less from my expectations, we lost few good opportunities to open for some big bands but these are things you learn in life and move on. I am looking forward to continue playing live in 2018.

Side Projects

Far and Near was recorded in my personal home studio except for drums and mixing and I have received many compliments about the quality of the recording. So, I decided to open doors of my studio to help other musicians and artists. Weather you need help in recording, mixing or any other instruments feel free to ask me. As an independent musician, I know it’s hard to find a musicians, mentorship plus affordability. I spent countless hours to learn about all aspects of music production and business not everyone can do it. The response is great to keep me busy for next couple of months. I have plans to get involved in different side projects in 2018 starting with a movie score and some other cool stuff.

Conclusion and Future Plans

2017 was another great year in Fire Garden books…thanks to my mates Marc Malitz, Allen Ladis and Bill Kiser for coming along. I’ve started writing new record but I will take my time, not sure when it will be done but definitely, I am expecting to start recording later in 2018. Due to the current state of the music business, I am still debating myself with few options. The new album would definitely be different than what I have done with last 2 records and I hope that your support will make it possible as well. There are a couple of music videos in the pipeline which will be out early 2018 and I have plans to continue playing live music and revamp our live show. There is lot to do in 2018 and I am looking forward to another great year.

Thank you all fans for being part of the journey and have a great coming year. Happy New Year!!!!
